Blue Jay tennis player Kody Westerhaus qualified for the 6A State Tennis tournament in singles with a 5th place finish at the regional tennis tournament held in Topeka on Friday. In the first round, he defeated Tim Nguyen from Wichita Southeast 6-0, 6-0. His only defeat came to the hands of Mason Thieu from Washburn Rural 6-0, 6-2 in the second round. In his last chance to earn a trip to the state tournament, Westerhaus defeated Seenu Madhaven from Wichita East 6-2, 6-3. In the fifth place match, Westerhaus defeated Jacek Holroyd from Washburn Rural 6-0, 6-3 to end the day with a 3-1 record. Another doubles team of Mason Richards and Nolan Rothfuss won their first round, but lost their next two rounds to go 1-2 on the day. Other entries for the Blue Jay tennis team included Hayden Diestelkamp in singles and Erik Mitchell and Albert Caba in doubles. The 6A State Tennis Tournament will be held May 10-11 in Olathe at the College Boulevard Activity Center.
