JCHS selects new wrestling coach

April 5, 2019 Mat Droge, Executive Director of Communications JCHS Wrestling  Coach Selected JUNCTION CITY, KAN. – Junction City High School has selected Mr. Tyler Gonzales as the new Blue Jays Wrestling Coach. Gonzales is currently teaching and coaching at Discovery Canyon High School in Colorado Springs, Colorado.  He will begin teaching in the Social Studies

BlueJays Place 7 Individuals in Route to 3rd Place Team Finish

The BlueJay wrestling team traveled to Shawnee Mission Northwest this past weekend to compete in a 15 team tournament.  The BlueJays battled in their debut at this tournament placing 7 individuals as the team placed 3rd overall!!!  Overall Coach Laster was proud of the teams effort and looks forward to seeing them continue to progress.

Wrestlers of the Week Dec. 1

ZANE THORNTON- Varsity 126 Zane had a Second Place finish at the Shawnee Mission Northwest Invitational.  Zane is a Junior for the BlueJays and is leading the way with his hard work and effort during practices.  Coaches look forward to seeing Zane in the 6A rankings having beaten the #5 ranked wrestler this past weekend.

Congratulations to JCHS Wrestlers of the Week for competitions at: Haysville-Campus (V), McPherson (Girls V), and Salina South (JV). VARSITY CJ NEUMAN (152)- 4-0, 1st Place Champion   JV Blayne Danford (120)- 5-0, 1st Place Champion Judah Peterson (195)- 5-0, 1st Place Champion  

BlueJay Wrestlers Place 2nd

BlueJay wrestlers opened their season traveling to Haysville-Campus for dual tournament competition.  The BlueJays captured a 2nd place overall team finish going 3-1 on the day. The BlueJays opened the day with a tight finish, edging out the Hays Indians 36-34 at the end.  They then went on to capture victories against Mulvane High 47-28

Blue Jay Blue/White Scrimmage Nov. 26

The 2018-19 Junction City Wrestling team would like to invite family and friends to come to our annual Blue/White Scrimmage.  Wrestlers will compete for an opportunity to represent the Junction City BlueJays at our first competition on Dec. 1 at the Haysville Dual Tournament.

On November 27th, in Shenk Gymnasium at 7:00pm, the Blue Jay wrestling team will be having its annual Blue/White scrimmage. Please come out and support!

State Wrestling Results

Congratulations to our four state placers. Aryus Jones (182) – 2nd place Kamari Smith (160) – 4th place John Clark (152) – 5th place Max Bazan (126) – 5th place Team finished in 20th place overall.


Congratulations to our five state qualifiers in wrestling.  Wrestling begins today in Wichita at Hartman Arena.  Blue Jay Nation wishes you all the best of luck!

JCHS to celebrate Coach Laster’s 30th year as head coach of the Blue Jay Wrestling program

Junction City High School is proud to recognize Robert Laster and his 30th year of being head coach of the Blue Jay wrestling program. The Blue Jays will host their annual Varsity wrestling tournament this Saturday, January 28th starting at 9:00am.
